📣 How To Boost a Post On Instagram

When you first encounter Meta's advertising tools, it can feel overwhelming. Luckily, Instagram offers a simplified option called "Boost post," so you don't even need to dive into Facebook Ads Manager.

Discover a step-by-step instruction on how to boost a post on Instagram 👇
Choose the Right Post
Not every post is worth boosting. Use Instagram Insights to find posts with many likes, saves, or comments—boosting high performers gives you the best shot at great results.

Start Configuring Campaign
You'll see the "Boost post" button below your post, but only
if you have a business or creator account. (If you don't, switch your account type under Settings → Account)

Choose Your Goal
Instagram will ask what you want to achieve. Choose the goal that matches your intention:
• More Profile Visits (great for brand awareness)
• More Website Visits (ideal for promoting products or services)
• More Messages (encourages direct communication)

Define Your Audience
Now choose who will see your post. You can:
• Let Instagram automatically target people like your followers.
• Or create your own audience by selecting age, location, gender, and interests.

If you know your niche (e.g., women 25-45 in NYC who love skincare), customize your audience manually to reach the right people—not just more.

Set Your Budget & Duration
If it's your first boost, start small—$5-10 over a few days is
a good test budget. Pick a duration (1, 3, or 7 days) and set daily or total spend. Instagram will estimate your reach based on that.

Review & Launch
Double-check your audience, goal, and budget, then hit Boost post. Your ad will go through moderation and usually starts running within an hour once approved.

Analyze the Results
After your boost ends, check Insights for key metrics:
• Reach & Impressions (How many people saw your post?)
• Engagement (Likes, shares, saves, etc. — did people interact?)
• Link Clicks or Profile Visits (Did they take action?)
• Cost per Result (How much did you pay for each click, message, or desired outcome?)

How To Fix an Underperforming Boost
If your CPR is high and results are low, try:
• Narrowing your target audience
• Tweaking your creative (photo, caption, or CTA)
• Picking a stronger post next time
